  1. Traction: Get A Grip On Your Business

By: Gino Wickman

Rating: A+

Simply put, this is THE book that business consultants, executive coaches, and entrepreneurs use to improve and run their businesses.

I have read dozens and dozens of business operation books. Everyone has their own spin on this topic BUT you have to pick 1 way to run your business. You can’t keep switching how you will operate and expect to keep employees much less do what you do well.

This book has shown up as a common thread throughout my network as the best operating system for entrepreneurs.

  1. The Intentional Father: A Practical Guide to Raise Sons of Courage and Character

By: Jon Tyson

Rating: A+

This book is close to my heart. Being a Dad is one of the most important roles I will play in my life.

Children without fathers:

-Are 4 times more likely to live in poverty

-Are more likely to suffer emotional and behavioral problems

-Have higher levels of aggressive behavior than children born into married homes

-Have two times the risk of infant mortality

-Are more likely to go to prison. Only one in five prison inmates grew up with their father present

-Are twice as likely to be involved in early sexual activity

In almost every other culture, there is a codified, intentional, intense pathway to develop adolescents into adults. But in Western, US culture, there’s almost nothing.

Do you know what’s really killing our young people today?

The answer is self-initiation.

  1. The Comfort Crisis: Embrace Discomfort To Reclaim Your Wild, Happy, Healthy Self

By: Michael Easter

Rating: A+

Great book! The message was challenging and the story telling was phenomenal.

The author explains the benefits of getting out of your comfort zone, both physically and mentally. His explanation is interwoven with an epic story about his own Misogi Challenge, a month long caribou hunt in the Alaskan wilderness. Spoiler…the author has never hunted and the storytelling is fantastic.

A Misogi Challenge: A physical and mental challenge that you have a 50% chance of succeeding at if everything goes right. It is difficult but there are insurances that you will not die.

One of the shocking statements that stuck with me was that we rarely feel real hunger in the West. 80% of our modern hunger cravings are tied to the dopamine loop and not actual hunger.

  1. How We Love: Discover Your Love Style, Enhance Your Marriage

By: Milan and Kay Yerkovich

Rating: A-

This book came highly recommended from a friend as a great tool to work on yourself as a spouse. The authors describe 6 love styles and how they all interact with each other. They go through how they interact in healthy and unhealthy ways and what to do about it. I felt like they were looking deep into my soul.
